Would-be space pilgrims, stay tuned.

Another Vote on Prop 8
California’s top court begins to hear oral arguments on the validity of the state’s controversial ban on gay marriage. Also in legal limbo: 18,000 California couples married before the November elections. Opponents will argue the ban unlawfully revises the state constitution by depriving a minority of fundamental rights.

Fashion Emergency
New York, London and Milan will have already taken their bows, leaving Paris Fashion Week with the last chance to convince fashion editors and buyers that the crisis-addled public still wants to feel glamorous.

March 7
Last Great Race
More than 70 fishermen, miners, doctors and lawyers will give up their day jobs for a couple of weeks to take a stab at the 1,150-mile Iditarod Dog Sled Race. Subject of the Discovery Channel series “The Toughest Race on Earth,” the famed competition stretches from Anchorage to the coast of the Bering Sea.

March 10–12
Another Crack at the Climate
The University of Copenhagen hosts an international congress headed “Climate Change: Global Risks, Challenges and Decisions.” Attendees will attempt to identify milestones in policy, science and technology necessary for a sustainable future in a run-up to Copenhagen’s December UN Climate Change Conference.

March 13–22
Saddle Up!
Austin reasserts its standing as the Lone Star State’s culture capital at the annual South by Southwest Festival of Music, Film and Interactive Media. This year, organizers will offer a “Sounds from Spain” showcase and a record number of Colombian acts. Headliners include The Decembrists and Ben Harper.

March 17
Hoops of March
Every bar becomes a sports bar for two weeks beginning with today’s opening round of the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, ending with the Final Four on April 4 and 6 in Detroit.

March 23–27
