Alaska’s “Bridge to Nowhere” has become the poster child for runaway government spending.

Although I think a bridge to Gravina Island is excessive you have not mentioned the fact that the ferry cannot take vehicle traffic during extremely low tides. This means that emergency vehicles are cut off from the airport.
