Tax rebate checks are arriving in early May, so we’ve found some indulgent ways to spend the extra cash around the country.
Hollywood High Life
Where: Chateau Marmont
Let your inner superstar shine with a luxury weekend high in the Hollywood hills at the Chateau Marmont. For $520 a night, the hotel’s famous garden cottages are the best—and priciest—rooms in the house, with poolside settings and private entrances that’ll have you feeling like an A-lister. The site is so steeped in Tinseltown mythos that Architectural Digest called the hotel “a real life version of Rick’s cafÈ in Casablanca.”
Life of the Party
Where: The Loft
Since we know it’s better to give than to receive, why not throw a party to share all your newfound—albeit fleeting—wealth? With a generous spirit and a few hundred bucks, hire VIP treatment at The Loft, downtown Denver’s hippest and hottest club. An open-bar party will run you $40 a head, but considering the spacious, two-story club’s 800-person capacity, you’ll have to be a bit prudent with the guest list.
Mmmm...Chocolate
Where: Petals and Wine
If you want to use the extra cash to score points with your significant other, try the Lover’s Chocolate Tour offered by Petals and Wine. You and your sweetheart can discover the best chocolate that New York has to offer with a private walking tour of the Big Apple’s chocolatiers. Led by Alexandra Leaf—an award-winning cookbook author and chocolate educator—the tour teaches you about chocolate varieties and includes a small souvenir gift. For a little bit extra, you can pair your delights with wine.
Best Facial $$$ Can Buy
Where: Spa Radiance
Two things are guaranteed when you book an afternoon at Spa Radiance: You’ll leave with healthier skin and a lighter wallet. Though individual treatments are available for your face, hair and nails, why not go all out and give your whole body the once-over. At $595 for a full five hours of pampering, the CrËme de la CrËme package definitely fits the bill, with treatments that’ll leave you tingling from head to toe.
Unique Sneaks
Where: Wish boutique
It may look like a nightclub from the outside, but Wish, an exclusive boutique in Atlanta’s Little Five Points, is actually a one-stop hipster outpost for some of the world’s most cutting-edge fashions. Start by getting comfortable on one of the black leather chairs while you ponder the best way to blow your cash. Granted, you could grab something great off one of the racks, but the real treasures are in the sneaker room. There, you can easily drop a couple hundred bucks on a pair (or two) of limited edition sneaks.
Tastiest Rebate Ever
Where: Morimoto Restaurant
If you can get a reservation, Japanese Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto will prepare you a one-of-a-kind multi-course meal, so you can experience for yourself the flavors, colors and aromas that have aficionados claiming his culinary creations are works of art. The special starts at $80 per person, but we suggest going straight for the $120 price point. Add to that the $85 per person omakase (a special suite of drinks to compliment every course), and you’ll be raving about Bush’s economic savvy. At least for the night.
