As summer winds down, take the kids for one last family outing before they head back to school.

Find out the best places to spend that one last family day before the kids go off to school.

Nature Getaway
Where: Greenlake Seattle Bed and Breakfast
Located steps from scenic Green Lake Park, this bed and breakfast puts you right inside the heart of recreation.
A welcome basket greets you upon arrival, filled with children’s toys and videos. Rent the kids some bikes or rollerblades, and take advantage of the three miles of winding paths through the park and around the beautiful lake perimeter.
With a playground, ball fields and even boat rentals, the park provides plenty of fun and memorable ways for the whole family to play.

Rustic Retreat
Where: Weatherbury Farm
Singing “Old McDonald Had a Farm” and reading Charlotte’s Web don’t compare to a real farm experience. Give your children a great opportunity to relax, play and learn all about how a working farm operates.
Weatherbury sits just south of Pittsburgh, but the meadows, cows and sheep that surround it give it a faraway feel. Staffed by a family of three, the Weatherbury experience is intimate and tailored for kids of all ages.

Creepy Crawly
Where: Audubon Insectarium
Located in downtown New Orleans, the Audubon Insectarium is a fun and educational way to spend the day with both live insects and large collected specimens. Learn the art of insect cuisine, watch the animated insect film and play with hundreds of butterflies in the Japanese garden.
The kids will get a kick out of the Underground exhibit, which shrinks them down to bug size and gives them an insect-eye view of the world and the essential role bugs play in the environment.

Kids Kampus
Where: Downtown Jacksonville
Kids Kampus, located in the heart of Jacksonville, offers a miniature city for you and your kids to explore.
Designed to help children develop physically, intellectually and socially, this 10-acre facility features a yellow brick road with signs along the way that describe major events in the city’s history.
The bright colors and endless variety of digging, sliding and climbing equipment will please any kid. And it’ll please you, too: everything, including the bike rentals, is free.

Drums & Drawing
Where: The Hollywood Bowl
School your kids in a bit of Los Angeles cultural history with a trip to the famous Hollywood Bowl for the annual SummerSounds festival of concert events for the little ones.
Parking is free and admission is only $6 per child. A new program is featured every two weeks with performances beginning every weekday at 10 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. daily.
If your children prefer arts and crafts, enroll them in the arts studio classes for only $4 each. Professional artists teach drawing, painting and sculpture to ages 3 and up.

Tea with Madeleine
Where: Carlyle Hotel
Every Saturday and Sunday, the posh Carlyle Hotel’s bar is turned over to the children’s book heroine, Madeleine, for an afternoon of tea, little girls and sing-alongs. The walls of the bar are covered in murals painted by Madeleine’s creator, Ludwig Bemelmans.
The delicious array of goodies for High Tea includes finger sandwiches (no crusts, of course), scones with jam and Devonshire cream and your own pot of tea...all served on a three-tiered platter.
As pianist Tina va Rone tickles the keys and turns the famed books into songs, little girls and their mommies are sure to bond.
