Producer Ted Hope Receives Vision Award
“He’s one of the people who wants to make movies for all the right reasons,” states Alan Ball, the executive producer of blockbuster HBO dramas “True Blood” and “Six Feet Under.”
Hall is referring to producer Ted Hope, whose movies have played a central role in defining independent cinema for the last two decades.
Along with bringing dozens of films to the big screen, Hope’s ongoing effort to find the best young talent in the business helped launch the careers of filmmaking luminaries like Ang Lee, Hal Hartley, Todd Field, Michel Gondry and Todd Solondz.
On August 19, Hope was awarded the Vision Award from the Filmmakers’ Alliance for his continuing work to foster independent cinema.
As he told FLYP in our feature story, “the role of the producer has changed over the years, shifting from just securing financing for a picture to building its audience.”
During his acceptance speech for the award (posted below in two parts), Hope explains what he thinks independent film producers should be doing to greenlight change in Hollywood.
