Checking in with Sariah Carson

Feb 27, 2009
By Tara Kyle

When we met Fresh Faces in Fashion honoree Sariah Carson, she was recovering from the blitz of her first-ever appearance at New York’s Fall Fashion Week.

Like much of the recession-addled fashion world, Carson sat out the recent Spring Fashion Week. But she premiered her Fall 2009 collection this week on her Sariah Web site.

The line, filled with peacock blues, pewter greys and mustard yellows, is notable for its mix of African and Japanese prints and its use of winter florals and paillette embellishment.

Barneys New York likes what it sees. The upscale departments store offered Carson one of her first big opportunities by exclusively featuring her Fall 2008 collection. Now, they're re-upping for 2009.

“Barneys loves Sariah,” said Tomoko Ogura, fashion manager of Women’s CO-OP Barneys New York, where pieces from the spring 2009 collection sell for between $325-$695. Ogura noted that in an environment where buyers are looking for something extra, “Sariah offers those special pieces. You are drawn to her collection by the quality and design.”

You can read FLYP’s piece on the premier of Carson’s spring 2009 line, or visit Carson’s website to see her whole collection.
