Lyle Rexer’s view of abstract photography is scientific; like the natural sciences, a photo can hold that same sense of uncertainty and discovery.

Rexer, featured in issue 29 of FLYP, will kick off a month-long exhibition on May 15 of contemporary abstract works with the Aperture Gallery. Expect to see some familiar names from FLYP—Penelope Umbrico, Silvio Wolf, Shirine Gill to name a few—among the group of contemporary abstract photographers featured in Rexer’s show.

Lyle Rexer’s new book, The Edge of Vision: The Rise of Abstraction in Photography, follows photographic abstraction from the birth of the art the contemporary photographers who continue to question our eyes and challenge our minds.
